Happy Valentine’s Day! There’s nothing sweeter than Valentine’s Day in an elementary classroom. From the handwritten notes, to the carefully decorated card boxes, there really isn’t anything cuter. There are so many fun and exciting ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day in the classroom, even with the youngest learners. From candy to crafts to stories and even math activities there are so many options.
Easy Valentine’s Gifts
For a quick and easy parent gift idea, I quickly decorate my easel whiteboard in red cutout hearts (this literally takes me five seconds) and add the phrase “I love you because…”. (read more here).
As a quick and easy gift for my students, I give my students bubbles. I grabbed the bubbles from Target and oh-so-cute labels, here from U Create Crafts (read more here).
Double-Digit Addition Scoot
Celebrate Valentine’s Day by sharing the love of addition, double-digit addition. Have your kids “scoot” along with these two scoot games. They are both double digit addition with regrouping. The first scoot is word problems and the second scoot is numbers only. Grab this fun activity here.
Valentine’s Day Color By Sound
Give the kids a little break to color! They will *think* it’s a break, but you’re really working on their recent phonics patterns you’ve taught. Sneaky YOU! Grab this fun color by sound activity here!
Heart Marshmallow Toothpick Structures
This is such a great way to incorporate STEAM into the classroom. Using heart shaped marshmallows and toothpicks, students will not only snack, but sharpen problem solving and creative thinking skills. A special thanks to Buggy and Buddy for this sweet idea.
Valentine’s Day Craft
Tissue paper art is always one of my favorite things. Students will love creating this Valentine’s Day mobile. This is super simple and low prep. With tissue paper and a little water, students will decorate hearts. Then, when the water has dried students will pick off the squares and reveal a surprise color! Thank you Mess for Less!
Conversation Hearts Science
The classic Valentine candy heart…not a fan of the candy, but they are great for a science experiment. Snag this freebie from Curriculum Castle’s blog and have yourself a little fun observing science.
